18-819L – Special Topics in Applied Physics: Antennas for Wireless Communications

12 units

This course will review Maxwell's equations and develop mathematical descriptions and analysis techniques for radiation from different types of sources. These analysis techniques will be applied to antennas commonly used in wireless communications. Antennas to be discussed include the dipole, monopole, colinear monopole, inverted F antenna, planar inverted F antenna, patch antennas, Yagi-Uda antennas, ultrawideband antennas, and aperture antennas. Use will be made of industry standard numerical analysis tools such as NEC and HFSS.

3 hrs. lec.

Prerequisites: 18-303 or equivalent undergraduate course in electrodynamics and senior or graduate standing.
