Teaching opportunities
All students who are teaching must submit a Teaching Preference Form. For further details, please review the information below. If you have questions about the ECE TA program, please email Leona Kass-O'Rourke.
- Two semesters of Teaching Internship are required for the ECE Ph.D. program.
- Ph.D. students or M.S. students who intend to pursue a Ph.D. are eligible for the TI.
- Students should obtain their advisor's permission prior to applying for the TI.
- TIs must register for 18-991 in the Fall or 18-992 in the Spring.
- TIs are graded; a grade of "B" or better is needed to successfully complete the TI requirement.
- TIs are assigned to work 10 hours per week.
- Registration of 12 units is required for each semester of teaching.
- Ph.D. students who have completed the two required semesters of TI are eligible to apply to work for a TS.
- Students should obtain their advisor's permission prior to applying for the TS.
- The TS stipend is equal to 50% of the Ph.D. stipend.
- TAs working for a TS are assigned to work 10 hours per week.
- Full-time IMB students with graduate standing are eligible for the IMB TA.
- IMB TAs need to register for 18-983(F) / 18-984(S).
- IMB TAs receive a scholarship equal to 1/3 of the tuition rate deposited into their student accounts.
- IMB TAs are assigned to work 10 hours per week.
- IMB TAs must maintain full-time status to keep the IMB TA scholarship.
(Includes part-time IMB students)
- MS TAs will be paid biweekly at an hourly rate.
- MS TAs will fill out time cards and have them signed by the course instructor.
- UG TAs will be paid biweekly at an hourly rate.
- UG TAs will fill out time cards and have them signed by the course instructor.
- UG IMB TAs are not eligible to receive the IMB TA scholarship.
Graduate Students
International graduate students interested in working as a TA must contact the Intercultural Communication Center (ICC) to register for the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) test at least one semester prior to applying for a TA position.
Undergraduate Students
International undergraduate students should send email to Leona Kass-O'Rourke prior to applying for a UG TA position to receive authorization to take the ICC screening test.
